Join us in Joshua Tree, CA for our Queer Black Healing Retreat - a wellness experience designed to cultivate community connection and healing in a space that embraces the intersections of your identity as a Queer Black person.
Spend 5-days and 4-nights soaking up the serene beauty of Joshua Tree and gaining tools to help nurture your wellbeing. We’ll enjoy daily yoga, meditation, healing-centered workshops, nutritious meals, sound baths, and a group hike through Joshua Tree National Park. Plus there will be lots of time to truly enjoy the beauty of the Mojave Desert surrounding the property and see the fun, quirky Joshua Tree sights.
If you’re a Queer Black person who desires to embrace the energy of collective healing with intention - this retreat is for you. Leave feeling a renewed sense of community connection and personal grounding, with tools you can use to continue to utilize later on.
This retreat is open to anyone who identifies as Queer and Black - all gender identities and expressions are welcome.
Meet Your co-Hosts
Raia “Coach” Carey (she/her/hybrid)
As a 3x Certified Life Coach, speaker, and EDI consultant Coach Carey is passionate about encouraging others to tap into the confidence they never knew they had. After overcoming various hardships, she was able to transform her mindset and begin a career that empowers others to do the same.
By openly sharing her triumphs and tribulations, Raia’s vulnerability helps foster a welcoming and safe environment in every room she enters. She strives to inspire and lead those around her by providing unwavering support, guidance, and motivation.
By equipping clients with tangible tools to implement in their daily lives, she steers her community towards self-awareness, resilience, and sustainable success.

Jamila Reddy (she/her)
Jamila Reddy is a writer, transformational coach and mindfulness educator. Her teachings combine Buddhist philosophy, neuroscience, and somatic techniques. Her focus is helping people navigate life's transitional moments and curate their experiences with agency and ease.

Mel Douglas (she/they)
Mel Douglas is a multi-certified yoga instructor, plant mom to 100+ green babies, and the Founder of the Black Women's Yoga Collective. A Brooklyn native residing in Los Angles, her passion is building community and connection in South LA where she first started practicing.
In developing her personal yoga and wellness practice, it became impossible to ignore the lack of faces who looked like hers in the wellness industry. She believes that everyone deserves access to wellness and that healing is a radical act. Mel practices and teaches yoga to empower herself and serve others in accessing their own power.

The Location
Welcome to the Rest & Rejuvenate Retreat in the Yucca Valley, CA. We’ll be gathering at an expansive space in the Mojave Dessert that features:

multiple outdoor dining and lounge areas
Stargazing telescope
a detached yoga studio stocked with mats, blocks, and straps
3 bathrooms stocked with luxury Parachute towels

Rooming Options
Many of the rooms on this retreat are shared with one or two roommates. BWYC will assign roommates unless otherwise requested and approved in advance. Double occupancy options are only for those booking as a 2-person unit with someone you already know (we will not be assigning shared bedmates). All beds are made up with luxury Parachute linens.
